How long should a fashion reel be?

We measured the 230 reels our template library copies — real fashion reels, picked because they performed. The middle one runs 15 seconds, cut into 9 shots.

The short answer

Between 12 and 19 seconds. Half of the 230 reels we measured fall in that range, and the one in the middle runs 15 seconds.

The cut matters as much as the length. The middle reel has 9 shots, and a typical shot lasts 1.6 seconds — the picture changes every second or two. About a third of the shots show the outfit down to the feet; the rest move in closer.

Blazers run longest, 21 seconds in the middle against 15 overall. Dresses, Jackets, Jeans, Sherwanis and Sweaters & Knits are the shortest, at 12 seconds. Blouses & Tops and Jackets cut fastest: a shot every 1.1 seconds. Jeans reels show the full outfit most — 83% of their shots, against 34% overall.

The reels past 1M views ran 14 seconds in the middle, against 16 for those under 100K. They ran shorter, but by less than the spread inside either group — length is not what made them travel. Treat the range above as somewhere to sit, not a number to hit.

How this was measured

Every template in the LastCut library is a copy of a real fashion reel, picked because it did well. Our analysis finds each reel's cuts and reads each shot's framing — whether the outfit is seen down to the feet, from the knees up, from the waist up.
Lengths are the original reel's, in seconds. A reel copied into more than one template is counted once.
A group needs at least 5 reels to be listed (10 for the views split); a median of four is an anecdote.
Full body counts a shot that shows the outfit down to the feet at any point. Shots with nobody in them, and reels with only hands, are left out of that column.
This is a library of reels worth copying, not every reel ever posted — so read it as what reels that worked look like, not as a rule.
Measured on 30 September 2026 across 230 reels, and re-measured as the library grows.
